“Colors” by Beck

Background

Beck’s 2017 album “Colors” is a prime example of why people call him an artistic chameleon — an artist who dares to mix genres and mesh different styles in an album.

Beck’s Objective

Beck wanted to make an album that “was uplifting, had a lot of energy, and made you want to sing along.”

Guiding Words

Fluid: reflects the album’s genre-fluidity; how it dares to mix and mesh styles
Vivid: reflects the uplifting energy and passion
Engaging: reflect Beck’s intention to create an energetic album

Color

In many articles, Beck is compared to an artistic chameleon; so why not base the color of the album off chameleons?

Sketching

I gravitated towards eye imagery since colors are only possible to be seen by the human eye. I didn’t want to be too on the nose, so I leaned into the basic shapes of an eye: a circle within an almond-like shape.
